1952 K-model air filter backing plate
I snagged it for 77 dollars. |

The K-model engine I bought had a carburetor, but no air filter assembly. Two weeks after I won the engine, I got this backing plate. The 1952 parts book I bought was a big help.
The K-model air filter is not like the Panhead ones. It is a 7-inch J-slot type. But the backing plate is unique to the K-model. It is not a flat plate, but a much cooler recessed assembly.
Best of all, this filter came with the loop on the back that mounts the trumpet horn. This unit had a piece missing, either cut out or broken out. |
You can see the missing section at the top of the backing plate. The seller was honest, he made sure to point this out in the listing and the pictures. To show how the filter sits on the bike, you would have to rotate it clockwise a bit over 90 degrees. That rectangular bump by the carb hole is to clear the choke. The circular tab at 7 o'clock is the backing for the horn mount tab. It is riveted on.
Look at this honest shot below, showing the small strip missing from the outside diameter. Note the missing section does not hold one of the mounting rivets, there are all four rivets on this baby. |
