Another Thunderheads tub

An Ironhead lover can't have too many Thunderheads.

So in the spare room bathroom there was a box with another set of Thunderheads. I took the big tub that was full of gaskets, emptied it out and put in the Thunderheads.

Here is the Thunderhead box after the movers stuffed it into the bathroom, on my orders.

A better look at the box contents. Its got two sets of pistons, one I think are used, the other are new XR-1000 pistons I bought from a dealership in Ohio. Here is the former gasket tub I am emptying out for the Thunderheads.

The gasket tub had yet another bin that was full of o-rings and seals. I put it on the shelf with the other bins. This bag looks to have a magneto mounting ring, and the double-wide race for the 1967-70 dry clutch basket. I will get this stuff to the appropriate tubs. Thigs got pretty willy nilly before I moved from California to Florida.

Now we get to the Thunderheads. One cylinder got wet and had surface rust, thankfully not in the bore. You can just make out the used pistons in the baggie on the left. Here are the Thunderhead rocker boxes and head bolts. You use the factory Sportster rocker hardware, but cut and re-weld the arms to account for the smaller angle between the valves.

Here are the new pistons and rings I got from a Harley dealer in Ohio. I think they were 300 or 400 bucks, pretty heart-stopping. The manifold and pushrod covers are critical and they were included in the eBay purchase.

I put it on the second shelf, its the bigger tub with the blue locking handles. I took the box of fenders into the spare room to make room for this tub. .

Here are the gaskets I have to find a home for. I saved all the complete engine gasket boxes so I can staple them to the wall to remind me how many motors I have gone through. Now to go look at the gas tanks and such in the spare bedroom.
